In an effort to maximize the value of the conference for students and newcomers to gerontology, a brief introduction to the field will be given on Sunday afternoon. This will be integrated with key advance information from the lectures in order to make them more understandable to participants from diverse backgrounds, and put them into perspective from the standpoint of current approaches to aging research.
George Roth, a thirty year NIA veteran now pursuing caloric restriction mimetic development in the private sector, will provide insight obtained over a four decade span, illustrating the evolution of the field from "descriptive and highly speculative" to the "mechanistic, cutting edge" paradigm that characterizes current gerontological thought.
Any student or trainee (with their supervisor's approval) who will be presenting a poster will be given free room and board for the entire Symposium with payment of the registration fee (US $ 125.00 or US $ 100.00, if paid before April 1, 2010). To take advantage of this offer, participation in the Gerontological Perspectives of the 2010 Lectures (see above) is mandatory. Please indicate your interest in presenting a poster and forward the information to Dr. Brown-Borg (brownbrg@medicine.nodak.edu).
Furthermore, the NIA Minority Travel Assistance Program provides information for minority/disabled students, trainees and fellows to apply to the NIA for travel assistance.
